Aerobiological monitoring of the air in the Białowieża Forest

On August we initiated a new project – aerobiological monitoring of the air in the Białowieża Forest. We actively monitor the concentration of pollen and fungal spores using volumetric method, with the Burkard Seven Day Recording Volumetric Spore Trap. This event opens up new research possibilities. The research is led by Dr. Marcelina Zimny.

During the initial weeks of the monitoring, in August and September, we recorded moderate to low concentrations of pollen from nettle (Urtica), sorrel (Rumex), ribwort plantain (Plantago lanceolata), as well as Poaceae, Chenopodiaceae and Compositae families in the atmosphere of Białowieża. Additionally, we recorded moderate to low concentrations of fungal spores (Alternaria and Cladosporium).

We kindly invite you to follow our project, which unveils fresh perspectives in aerobiological studies in our region.
