Conference Theme and Scope – The Białowieża Ecology Conference (BEC) is a series of international scientific conferences that aim to gather a better understanding of temperate forest ecosystems. It will take place in the heart of Europe’s last primeval lowland forest, Białowieża, Poland. This year, 2024, marks the first edition, entitled “Temperate Forests in the Anthropocene: disturbances, species, humans and ecosystem functioning”. The goal of the conference is to exchange and summarize knowledge in the fields of forest ecology and conservation biology, connect researchers working in a variety of scientific fields, and discuss practical solutions for more sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation in a context of global change. A multitude of research topics are included in this conference to cross-fertilize approaches that yield a better understanding of temperate forests in socio-ecological contexts.
