Despite globalization, our knowledge of planetary biodiversity is very limited. It is estimated that up to 80% of species are still waiting to be described, and at the same time, we know that we are losing them at an alarming rate. Therefore, in order to be able to counteract negative changes to predict their direction, we need to learn as soon as possible the processes influencing the distribution of species and their distribution patterns. To meet these challenges, we joined the international team implementing the LIFEPLAN project. We will participate in building a very ambitious global network of research plots, which will collect information on many taxonomic groups of organisms in natural and urbanized forest ecosystems in a standard way.
